The article examines the principal techniques of verbal influence employed in pedagogical communication within the course "Professional rhetoric of the language and literature teacher", which is a compulsory discipline for first-year Bachelor’s students majoring in Secondary Education (Ukrainian Language and Literature), Faculty of Philology, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The study outlines key provisions of the theory of verbal influence that are relevant to pedagogy, psychology, and rhetoric in the development of effective teaching methods, educational strategies, and psychological impact. In the context of pedagogical rhetoric, a teacher’s understanding of this theory is essential for the further analysis of linguistic phenomena and the development of communicative competence. The theory of verbal influence explores various strategies used to affect the addressee, including such techniques as argumentation, suggestion, manipulation, and the use of authority, all of which are addressed in the article. Particular attention is devoted to suggestion as one of the most effective techniques of verbal influence in pedagogical communication, primarily targeting the emotional sphere. The study analyzes specific suggestion technologies, including analogy, attributing new meanings to words (metaphorization), creating a vertical context, and constructing associative or contextual chains of homogeneous phenomena. Examples of the application of suggestion technologies in the didactic process are provided. The article also proposes practical tasks that can be implemented in the course "Professional rhetoric of the language and literature teacher" to develop students’ skills in applying verbal influence techniques in pedagogical communication and to enhance their rhetorical culture overall. Furthermore, it considers factors influencing the effectiveness of verbal influence in the educational process, as well as its ethical dimensions in pedagogical communication.
