The article actualizes the problem of updating the training of doctors of philosophy on the basis of a competence approach. One of the means of solving this problem is the introduction into the educational process of the postgraduate study of the compulsory academic discipline "Professional and Pedagogical Competence of the Teacher of a Higher Educational Institution." The contents of the developed course and the general mechanisms of its approbation in the course of preparation of listeners of all directions of preparation are opened.
