The article discusses the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in achieving full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
The article emphasizes the importance of the person-environment relationship and its impact on the growth and development of individuals, particularly those with disabilities. It recognizes that the process of achieving social inclusion involves various stages of personal development, from self-management to navigating different environments. The article acknowledges that encountering obstacles during these growth phases can hinder the attainment of full autonomy and social inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
Furthermore, the article touches upon the social implications of body image and the role of significant others in shaping one's perception of their body. It is important to note that disability intersects with various aspects of life, including relationships and societal norms, and understanding these intersections can contribute to a comprehensive understanding of disability and its implications.
