The problem of formation and development of the communicative competence of the students of education and language and speech as its components remains in the focus of many studies aimed at the implementation of modern innovative approaches to the student's practical assimilation of the most important provisions of educational components. The leading role among them is played by linguistic educational components that focuses the attention of future specialists on the formation of their spelling skills and abilities. The article analyzes research on the issues of parentheses and embedded constructions, improvement of students' punctuation competence in the process of conducting practical classes on the Ukrainian language in a professional direction, offers a set of exercises aimed at actualizing students' ability to distinguish between the parentheses and inserted constructions. It is noted that in the process of language education of students of higher education, more attention is paid to the formation of their spelling abilities and skills, while at the same time, the formation of students' punctuation competence may be overlooked by the teacher. They cannot always explain the choice of punctuation marks and justify their use, give an appropriate rule, explain the structure and determine the type of sentence, as well as the elements that complicate it, thereby justifying the setting of punctuation marks. A significant number of students experience difficulties in defining and distinguishing parentheses and embedded constructions. The reason for this is the complexity of the named syntactic concepts and insufficient attention to this aspect of work in schools and institutions of higher education. At the same time, when writing coursework and diploma papers, articles, and creative works, students of higher education try to use parentheses and embedded constructions of various meanings, but they are not always sure which punctuation marks to use in such cases. The purpose of the article is to consider the main issues of work on parentheses and embedded constructions as a means of forming the punctuation competence of students of higher education in the process of conducting practical classes on the Ukrainian language in a professional direction, as well as to propose a set of exercises aimed at improving the punctuation competence of students of higher education. Various exercises for observing language phenomena, analyzing syntactic units, improving students' abilities and skills in the correct use of parentheses and embedded constructions are described in detail. The obtained results are briefly summarized; it is recommended to introduce reproductive and creative exercises into the educational process in Ukrainian language classes under professional guidance. The obtained results are briefly considered; it is recommended to introduce reproductive and creative exercises into the educational process in Ukrainian language classes under professional guidance. Prospects for further research in the outlined area are also determined. The materials of the article can be used to improve the methods of teaching the Ukrainian language in a professional direction as a component of the training of future specialists of various profiles.
