The article considers the problem of developing oral skills of students of non-language higher education institutions in the context of professionally oriented study of a foreign language. The relevance of the topic is due to the need to increase language activity and form a speech culture as the basis for professional and personal self-realization of future specialists. It is emphasized that speech culture is a component of a linguistic personality and is closely related to national and socio-cultural factors, which determines the level of communicative competence, affects the quality of professional activity and contributes to the development of the intellectual potential of society. The study analyzes the basic concepts related to language culture, as well as factors that influence its formation in students. Methodological approaches to the development of speech skills in higher education institutions are highlighted, effective teaching tools are characterized, including communicative exercises, interactive methods and individually oriented tasks. Special attention is paid to the role of the teacher as a guide in the assimilation of language norms and communication strategies. The need to form professional speech competence not only among students, but also among teachers themselves within the framework of the system of advanced training is emphasized. Modern educational approaches provide for the development of oral speech not as an isolated skill, but as an integral part of general foreign language communicative competence. It is proven that the use of situational dialogues, modeling of professional communication and debates creates conditions for the formation of not only language knowledge, but also strategic speech thinking, which is especially important for future specialists in any field. Special attention is paid to the need to form in students the ability to speech self-reflection and critical understanding of their own speech. It is noted that such competences contribute to increasing speech independence, develop the ability to adapt to various communicative situations and adhere to ethical norms of speech communication in a professional environment.
